Like human medicine, veterinary medicine has evolved from treating disease to the prevention of disease. The cornerstone of Preventive Health Care is the routine comprehensive examination. Since our pets age much more quickly than we do, this procedure should be done a minimum of 1-2 times a year. This allows us to find and correct smaller issues before they broaden, identify risk factors like obesity and dental disease and develop programs to control these, as well as work with you to develop the best vaccination, flea, tick and heartworm program for your pet to prevent many serious and potentially deadly diseases.
Riverview Animal Clinic has a fully equipped laboratory to help quickly diagnose problems as they may arise. This includes complete in house hematology and biochemical (blood) testing equipment, diagnostic ultrasonography, electrocardiography (EKG), a radiograph machine and endoscopy. We also refer to Board Certified experts in ophthalmology, radiology, cardiology, clinical pathology, orthopedics and other fields to help us interpret our test results and develop the best treatment for your pet.
Boarding/Day Boarding
We offer complete boarding facilities for cats, dogs, and many exotics. All our guests are housed in either outdoor runs that measure 4ft x 25 ft, or indoor runs or kennels. Guests staying indoors are taken out four times a day to our fenced exercise areas. They are fed Iams Low Residue diet unless you wish to bring their own food. Towels and blankets are provided for their comfort. For the safety of all our guests, we require all pets to be current on vaccinations. Dogs: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella. Cats: Rabies, FVRCP. Ferrets: Rabies and Distemper.
Extra TLC
For those pets staying with us either for the day or for an extended stay, we offer an Extra Tender Loving Care program. This daily one-on-one playtime is with our camp counselor in one of our large play yards for our canines and inside the boarding wards for our feline and
exotic friends. Activities range from a good game of fetch, to bird watching, to brushing and belly rubs—or whatever your pet prefers!
Bathing/Grooming
Monday through Saturday dogs, cats and ferrets that are up-to-date on all required vaccines (Dogs: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella. Cats: Rabies, FVRCP. Ferrets: Rabies and Distemper.) can be dropped off between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM for bathing. This includes trimming nails, ears cleaned, and anal gland expression. We can also trim feet, stomach, rear, and under eyes if requested.
In addition to routine bathing, we offer professional grooming by appointment only. Call (205) 991-9580, and ask to make a grooming appointment. Our groomers will schedule a date at the “salon” for your pet. Pets may be dropped off as early as 7:00 AM on the day of the appointment.
Pet Foods and Supplies
We offer many pet supplies and diets in our retail area, including Hill’s Science Diet and Prescription Diet, Iams Veterinary diets, Proplan and Purina Veterinary Diets, Royal Canin Veterinary Diets, Solid Gold, Innova, California Natural, Sojourner’s Europa, and more. We have available collars, leashes, cages, toys, treats and grooming supplies. If we do not have an item in stock, we will be glad to special order it for you!
Payment
For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. We also offer the Care Credit Pet Credit Card. You can apply for this card through our office in a matter of minutes. It works just like any other credit card, and can be used for pet health care needs at any participating veterinarian. Payment is due at the time of service unless prior arrangements have been made through our Business Office, which is open Monday-Friday. A deposit is required with emergencies and complex medical or surgical cases. We will gladly provide you with a written estimate on request.
Holidays
Riverview Animal Clinic closes to the public on New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Support staff and a doctor tend to our guests on these days to provide medications, treatments, daily exercise and kennel cleaning.
